Intro to Traditional Broom Making

Participants will learn the tying, shaping, tensioning, and finishing methods used to create three traditional kitchen tools: a cake tester, pot scrubber, and root vegetable scrubber. You’ll then build on those techniques to create a triple-style whisk broom.
About the Instructor: Hesper Nowatzki is the broom maker behind Three Moon Brooms and Hag Hollow in Galena, Illinois. Her work centers on traditional hand-tied broomcraft, natural materials, and functional forms rooted in folk tradition.
Ages 14+ No previous broom-making experience is required. Please note: Traditional broom-tying techniques require moderate upper-arm strength, bilateral hand dexterity, and lower-limb coordination.
Workshop fee: $100 - Includes all materials. Participants will also leave with additional broomcorn and cord so they can continue practicing and refining their skills at home!
Class size is limited to 8 participants to allow for individualized instruction.
