Mary Jo Hinds
Mary Jo (Faris) Hinds was born in Sheridan, Wyoming where her father operated a sign shop. Exposure to her father's artistic ability sparked an interest in, and would later produce a desire to develop her inborn talent for art.
Upon retirement, she had the opportunity to enroll in classes with a local artist who encouraged her love of oil painting. At the time, her goal was to paint a few pieces to hang in her home and possibly as gifts for her children. This quickly changed to a passion as she gained pride and satisfaction from capturing the beauty of our world on canvas. After three years with her first teacher, she felt the need for more and began study with her second teacher who provided significant help with color. Although neither of these teachers had formal training in art or education, they provided valuable assistance in the development of her natural talent.
Mary Jo hopes that her canvases can bring beauty and peace in our fast-paced world, if for only a few minutes. She doesn't think that they are right or wrong, just what she feels in her heart. She also strongly believes that the greatest teacher is practice and learning to appreciate the beauty in everything. A simple leaf....a close up of a horses eye.....a drop of dew on a flower petal. She advises everyone to "be bold, step out of your box, try new ideas". She feels that every painting she does is another practice piece, because she is always learning. She credits this approach, her teachers, and her supportive family as being responsible for the fact that her paintings, select and commissioned, have found homes all around the United States.
