Dwight Walles

Dwight received his art education at the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating with a BFA from the University of Kansas. Thanks to the
relationship of the University of Kansas to Hallmark in Kansas City, he began his career as a greeting card designer/illustrator. Dwight was
placed in a group where he was challenged to work in various techniques and explore illustration styles. He notes because of this, his
journey has not always been geared to the fine arts but more to commercial illustration and design.
Having designed and illustrated children’s books, educational materials, book covers, and magazine illustrations, Dwight worked as a graphic
designer and illustrator for 30 years in his own business, before retiring to the Galena area. As a designer, he was recognized for his use of type
and composition in designing collateral material, and developing logos, and as an illustrator had the opportunity of combining illustration with
his design. He has received numerous awards for his illustration and typography.
In retirement Dwight has been active in the local art community. His volunteer contribution included developing a website, and creating
promotional material to promote art and artists in the surrounding community. He also was instrumental in creating and running an artist
co-op gallery for 5 years and is now concentrating on his own development and growth as a fine artist.
