Christina Bolgren Cruz

My love for art first blossomed as a child, and continues to bloom into my adulthood today. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Clarke University in 2012. I was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa, and moved to Hanover, Illinois in 2013 where I currently reside today.
I am a multi-faceted artist, exploring multiple mediums including pencil and graphite powder on paper and wood , charcoal, oil painting and tattooing. My subject matter varies from animals to people, but I am particularly intrigued with the human figure and have a passion for realism. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture the individual differences that make each of us unique. Recently I have been exploring a looser style in charcoal, in combination with selective highly rendered areas within my compositions. This contrast of styles creates great visual interest, and allows my viewer to interpret each of my works for themselves.
When I’m not tattooing, my primary medium of choice is charcoal and graphite powder. I ‘paint’ the graphite powder onto paper and wood with paint brushes. I manipulate and layer the achromatic tones, from the darkest darks to the lightest lights, until a high level of realism is achieved. This results in almost a haunting appearance that can hopefully be seen and felt by my viewers.
I co-own Timeless Art Tattoo Studio in Hanover, Illinois with my husband Rudy.
