Alda Kaufman

Alda is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and a member of Iowa Artists and Plein Air Painters of Dubuque. A longtime resident of Dubuque, IA, Alda immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her Latvian parents. She has participated in many group and one-person shows including a solo show at the Dubuque Museum of Art and is included in their permanent collection. Alda was published in International Artist's 100 Ways to Paint People and featured on several covers of Julien's Journal. Her paintings hang in many private and public collections locally, throughout the country, and abroad. Alda paints a variety of subjects, preferring to concentrate on design and value contrast. Primarily a watercolor artist, she is experimenting with non-traditional surfaces and adding mixed media to achieve texture and color intensity. Participating in the Bluff Strokes paintouts and joining PPODS has expanded her interest in plein air painting.
