2020 Songwriters Project

The Galena Center for the Arts is organizing a virtual "COVID-19 Galena: The Story in Song" concert to premiere in October of 2020. This exciting new project is supported by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.

The virtual concert will feature all new music, created by regional songwriters, about their pandemic experiences. The songs may be happy, sad, hopeful, angry…whatever songwriters are inspired to create that illustrates a part of their experience during the pandemic.

The project is open to all songwriters, not just professional songwriters. The Galena Center for the Arts encourages all to enter. We look forward to hearing your music and inspirations!

Song theme ideas:

  • How has life changed?
  • How will life go on?
  • How will they bounce back…or not?
  • What are we missing without the music?
  • How meaningful will it be to have music back?
  • What have we lost?
  • Who have we lost?
  • What have we gained?
  • What have we learned?

Selected artists will receive a stipend, and will record the song in their own place of shelter. A CD of the virtual concert will be produced, which will be both an artistic and historic reflection of our time in isolation.

Songwriters wishing to apply for consideration to participate in the project should show interest by filling out the form below and a project coordinator will reach out to discuss the project in more detail, explain where to send files, and communicate deadlines.
