The late Alfred 'Alfie' Mueller slowly acquired an outstanding collection of 10,000-15,000 photographs, images and newspaper articles over the course of eight decades. His collection, dating back to the 19th century, features images of historic Galena and Jo Daviess County and includes public buildings, private houses, river scenes and flooded streets. Pictures from events long past, images of downtown Galena buildings as they were built, and faces of the past are just some of the treasured gems in the collection.

The Center has a two-room gallery, plus video-viewing room, dedicated to images from Mueller’s collection. Great care has been taken to scan, enlarge and frame each image. Although some were taken over 150 years ago, the detail is ridiculously clear. Images change seasonally. Stop by often to look into a window of Galena's past.
