Tuba Christmas

Special Event

Join us as tuba and euphonium players of all ages and all levels from around the tri-state area gather to proclaim the sounds of the season, big brass style. The ensemble will be led by Dr. Daniel Rowland, tuba and euphonium performer, educator and arranger. Currently, Dr. Rowland is Assistant Professor of Low Brass & Music Education at University of Wisconsin - Platteville and is Acting Principal Tuba of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.

This free holiday concert carries on the tradition of the former Galena Festival for the Performing Arts, which generously donated funds to support musical performances.

The first Tuba Christmas was organized by Harvey G. Phillips to honor his tuba teacher William Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. It was held December 22, 1974, in the ice skating rink at New York City’s Rockefeller Center. Now in it’s 50th year, Tuba Christmas is held in cities worldwide, celebrating those who play, teach, and compose music for instruments in the tuba family.

Musicians of all levels wishing to perform (rehearsal and performance both on December 10) can email the concert coordinator, Danny Rowland, at rowlandd@uwplatt.edu.

TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are presented with permission from the Harvey Phillips Foundation, Inc.
